Bike Fitting / Biomechanics

Our Approach

Our approach is different from traditional bike fits. Before you meet with your certified USA Cycling coach, you are given a pre-fit questionnaire that gathers important information about your riding style, injuries, issues with your current fit and goals. This allows your coach to have a better understanding of your needs from the start.

An Overview of Your Fitting

Interview

We take the time to talk with you and review your “Pre-Fit Questionnaire” so we understand the reason for your fitting, injuries, type of riding you plan to do and general questions you may have.

Postural Analysis / Cleat Adjustment

Using our biomechanics foot board and laser-guided measurements, we assess the alignment of your legs and feet to determine the correct cleat position. The will also help us identify any leg-alignment issues that may affect your position and comfort on the bike.

Body Measurements and Bike Setup

Once on the bike, we will consider your flexibility, strength, injuries, comfort and goals to setup your bike correctly. Laser-guided measurements are used to ensure each joint angle and position is safe and effective. This includes everything from the position of your feet to the adjustment of your helmet and sunglasses. We may also suggest different components (handlebars, stems, seats, seatposts, pedals, etc.). Depending on which parts we have in stock, we may be able to temporarily replace suggested components at the time of the fitting.

Technical Instruction and Video Feedback

A cycling coach will work with you on pedaling technique, proper form, posture, breathing technique and hand position while using video feedback so you can feel and “see” how changes affect your riding. ( Include a SpinScan )

Full Report

You will receive a full report of your fitting session including all changes made to your bike setup, technical observations, tips on maintaining proper form and follow-up recommendations. A PDF copy of this report will remain available in your online Stage5 Cycling account so you can download it when traveling or purchasing a new bike to make sure everything is always setup right.

This is a 2-hour service. Please bring cycling clothing, shoes, helmet, sunglasses and any extra parts that may have been used on your bike.

Don’t have a bike yet… We can set you up on our fit bike and help you make decisions on the best bike and size to buy. This can save you tons of time and help you navigate the many options available. Your bike fit report will enable the bike shop to setup your bike correctly the first time.

New to Cycling? You will learn technique, form, tips and tricks during your bike fitting session that can take years for riders to learn on their own. Avoid common and embarrassing mistakes.

Accurate Measurements

Instead of taking numerous anatomical measurements off the bike, we do all measurements on the bike. This is done using precise laser-guided compound measurements, which take into account not only anatomical data, but also the relationship between each area of the body. Once we have established the ideal position on the bike (including cleat alignment), we then shift our focus to function.

Form and Biomechanics

Adjusting the bike is only a small part of the process. We analize your form and position on the bike to ensure correct posture and alignment on the bike. You will receive instruction on proper pedal-stroke technique to ensure efficient power and effective use of muscles. This is performed taking your past and present injuries, discomfort and riding style into account.

Instruction on Riding Technique

We also work extensively on overall technique to address ergonomics, injury prevention, aerodynamics and performance. You can also choose to ride on the road with your coach for additional instruction and observation in a real world setting.
