2010 Mt Washington Hill Climbby
John Bayley
The occasion of the Mt. Washington hill-climb was going to be my third time up the Rock Pile in 2010, after riding both the Newton’s Revenge practise ride and race with Kristen on the tandem. One of these years I’ll learn, but there is an addictive aspect to the race, with 500+ participants and the [...]

2010 Mt. Washington Hill Climbby
Chris Merrill
I was excited about this year’s race as preparations went well leading up to the start. I skipped all alcohol and coffee for two weeks prior, ate well, and was even 5 lbs. lighter than last year. Took Friday before off to ensure additional rest and followed Tom’s “leg opener” routine Friday morning. Finally finished building my climbing wheels the week before and my bike was a svelte 16 lbs. or so. Weather was simply perfect and I arrived to the start line well warmed up, hydrated, and ready.

2010 Mt. Washington Hill Climbby
Kristen Gohr
Finally, the day was here! My good friend Margaret Thompson gave me a pat on the back and said, “Girl, get in your pain cave and get comfortable.” It is a strange visual but those of you who have gone up this mountain can probably understand. I lined up with the “Top [...]

2010 Concord Criterium – Women’s Proby
Eun Young Choi
I raced in the Concord crit today, which may actually still be going on right now. Josh also came along to cheer me on. It was a tough race for me. The course has six corners, three of which are downhill, and a long uphill over two straights. I was already getting kind of tired [...]

2010 Gran Prix of Beverly – Women’s Proby
Eun Young Choi
Here’s my race report for the crit last night in Beverly, MA. I didn’t do too well (21st out of 30?), but thought you’d like to hear about it anyway.
It is a “snakey” course, with three corners in succession…easier for you to just see the course yourself:

The first and fourth corners were the toughest, especially [...]

2010 Tour of the Catskills – Women’s Proby
Kristen Gohr
Friday: Prologue
2.3 miles
A short TT to start. Usually nothing to report here but this got interesting. I started in the small ring as there was a steep pitch out of the gate. I settled into the big ring after about 2 minutes only to look up and see a bear on the road in front [...]

2010 Working Man’s Stage Race – Men’s Cat 4by
Rich Batten
The Working Man’s Stage Race is a great race for a number of reasons including its close proximity, the friendliness and sincerity of the promoter, and the fact you don’t need to take a weekend off from the family to participate. The three events (time trial, circuit race, and track race) all start after work [...]

2010 Fitchburg Longsjo Classic – Women’s Cat 3/4by
Eun Young Choi
As you may know, the circuit and RR got cut out of the women’s 3/4 stage race, leaving just the TT (Sun) and crit (Mon). This was the first time I was glad to be a Cat 3 over Cat 2 or 1 because we raced earlier in the day and avoided 90F+ temperatures!! I [...]

2010 Keith Berger Criterium – Women’s Openby
Eun Young Choi
I did the Women’s Open race for the Keith Berger crit today in East Hartford, CT. It was sunny and hot, around 80F. There were about 25 women in the race with a good handful of strong Cat2 crit riders. The course is flat with four corners; the third and fourth corners are close together [...]

2010 Okemo Uphill Bike Raceby
Kristen Gohr
Okemo is the second race in the BUMPS series of 9 hill climbs. The course is 5.8 miles with 2100 feet of climbing and grades as high as 20%. 100 racers started off on a neutral start down a windy road to highway 100. Okemo is different from the other climbing races as it [...]

2010 Purgatory Road Race – Masters 45by
Brian Schwarzentruber
The lighter side:
This being my first race back for almost three years, I realized I was in the wrong race once we started lining up. I recognized so many great riders, like, Paul Curley and the Gearworks crew. My heart rate was 150 and we haven’t even started. I should have done [...]

2010 Purgatory Road Race – Women’s Cat 4/5by
Jennifer Vorse
I’m writing this race report quite shaken at the details of Saturday’s crash and reminded once again how quickly things can change — please, be careful out there everyone!! Nonetheless, I wanted to recount the race from my perspective while it’s still fresh.
I was excited to be doing a road race in a beautiful part [...]

2010 Purgatory Road Race – Women’s Cat 3/4by
Eun Young Choi
Hey team,
Jen and I did the Purgatory Road Race Women’s 3/4 race today, which was in Sutton, MA. It was an exciting race! and Jen will be writing a race report as well, so you’ll hear it from two perspectives!
It was a very pretty course with almost all good pavement. Our race was 32.5mi with [...]

2010 Nutmeg Classic Crit and Whaling City Cyclone Crit – Women’s Pro,1,2,3by
Eun Young Choi
Hey y’all,
Instead of doing work, I’m going to procrastinate and write race reports! I went down on Saturday to New Britain, CT, to do the Nutmeg Classic Crit. It’s a really easy crit course with only one pseudo-corner (before the start/finish line) and a gentle uphill in the middle of the course. It was sunny, [...]

2010 Great *Falls* Crit – Women’s Pro,1,2,3by
Eun Young Choi
Just wanted to give you an update about yesterday’s women’s open Great Falls crit yesterday, which Karla and I were in (Karla was also in the men’s 3/4 race earlier!). The weather was marked as 95% thunderstorms all day in Auburn, ME, and indeed it was rainy during our crit. It’s a four corner crit, [...]

2010 Killington Stage Race – Women’s Pro,1,2by
Kristen Gohr
Circuit Race
53 miles
The course was 3 laps around a relatively flat course. There was a KOM and a “Hot Spot” sprint on each lap. We went through the first KOM and I couldn’t figure out if that was the sprint or climb? I knew it was somewhat of a problem that I didn’t come out [...]

2010 Sterling Classic – Cat 4by
Rich Batten
Five laps, forty miles, two hours in this? In a season that has proved unpredictable at best and terrifying at worst this weather was doing nothing to inspire any confidence

2010 Blue Hills Classic – Cat 4by
Chris Merrill
After a punishing ride at Quabbin last weekend, I was hoping for a better day today, although set expectations low. Weather was certainly better – low 60s and no rain. Nice. Had a stressful week at work, and with my wedding less than 2 weeks away, needless to say I wasn’t feeling exactly rested.

2010 Win at Quabbin – Masters 35!by
John Bayley
It was grey and dreary as we drove to the start of the 2010 Quabbin Reservoir Road Race. The mood inside the car took a turn for the worse as raindrops started to hit the windscreen (windshield, for those who don’t have their English-American dictionary handy). It got even worse when…

2010 Quabbin Reservoir – Masters 45by
Rich Batten
The rain started to fall as I drove out the Masspike and approached the exit for Ware. I felt fortunate that I had packed leg warmers, arm warmers, booties, beanie cap and a vest.
The rain came in short light bursts while I warmed up on my trainer in the parking area.
The temp was 52 [...]
